Our Goal

The goal of Woodsboro ISD for students with disabilities is to provide meaningful and valuable educational experiences that prepare each student for future endeavors. Every student with a disability is given the opportunity to participate in an educational setting tailored to meet their individual needs. Woodsboro ISD is committed to delivering services in the least restrictive environment, ensuring access to the general education curriculum and promoting instruction alongside non-disabled peers to the extent that is appropriate for each student.

Woodsboro ISD partners with the Goliad Special Education Cooperative to service our students with disabilities.

FREE SCREENING

Woodsboro Independent School District is responsible for identifying, locating and evaluating all children with disabilities who are in need of special education and related services who reside within the school’s district’s boundaries.

WISD offers free screenings for children ages 3-5, who may need help talking, walking, seeing, hearing, moving or learning. The district provides screenings to children 0-3 with serious vision or hearing problems.

Free screenings are held by appointment for children ages 3-5 throughout the school year at Woodsboro Elementary School at (361) 543-4518 ext. 2. For children who are school age through 21 years old, please contact the Special Education Lead at your child's respective campus.

El Distrito Escolar Independiente de Woodsboro es responsable de identificar, localizar y evaluar a todos los niños con discapacidades que 
necesitan educación especial y servicios relacionados y residen dentro de los límites del distrito escolar.

El Distrito Escolar Independiente de Woodsboro ofrece evaluaciones gratuitas para niños de 3 a 5 años que puedan necesitar ayuda para hablar, 
caminar, ver, oír, moverse o aprender. El distrito también ofrece evaluaciones a niños de 0 a 3 años con problemas graves de visión o audición.

ESY (Extended School Year)

What is ESY?

"ESY" stands for "extended school year." Some students with disabilities require an extended school year in order to receive a "free appropriate public education (FAPE)" . Hence, a standard school year calendar may not be enough to satisfy the state and federal entitlement to an appropriate education. An ESY program, as part of FAPE, may include education and related services. ESY services are designed to ensure the student maintains skills and/or behaviors learned during the school year. They are not designed to assist in acquiring new skills or behaviors.
